A THIEF from Edinburgh made the journey to Dunfermline for a shoplifting day out.

However, the visit ended up in a four-month jail sentence for 34-year-old Peter Innes, after he was caught stealing from Debenhams.

Innes, of Lochend Road South, Edinburgh, appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on May 17, at Debenhams, Kingsgate Centre, he stole a quantity of fragrance.

The court was told the stolen goods, valued at £198, were placed in a rucksack before Innes was stopped trying to leave the store.

Sheriff James MacDonald told Innes: “You came to this jurisdiction for the purpose of committing theft.”
