A HEDGEHOG sanctuary founder says she has been left overwhelmed by community support after floods hit her Rosyth hospital.

Nadia Al-Dujali, 35, who runs Forth Hedgehog Hospital from her home in Middlebank Street, had to rescue hogs from waist-deep water in a shed in her garden two weeks ago.

Thankfully, the animals were safe but supplies were lost.

Following an appeal reported by the Press, the rescue centre has been inundated with donations and Nadia now has enough newspapers to last half a year!

She said: "All the water has gone now so we're busy cleaning up.

"I'm hoping to get all the hogs back outside again by the end of the week.

"They've been staying in my living room and kitchen and some have been in my neighbour's house too.

"The response has just been amazing with people putting money in our Paypal account, the Amazon wishlist has pretty much emptied and people have been dropping off donations at the door."

Now that things have settled, Nadia said she was also going to get in touch with a flood management company to see if anything could be done to stop a repeat.

"This is an ongoing issue," she added. "In 2012, I lost my car because my engine was damaged.

"It doesn't look like anyone is going to do anything so I'm looking out for a company that could suggest something, maybe a wall.

"We also took in three hogs in the flood that had been washed out.

"Despite the problems, the donations we've received are just amazing,

"I've had volunteers helping me out and we've been able to release nine hogs back into the wild.

"It's really touching – it means the world to me.

"The charity is my dream and without their support, I couldn't do it."
