LEAVING abusive and threatening voice messages after a row over child contact led to a court appearance for one High Valleyfield man this week.

Steven Campbell, 32, of Chapel Place, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

He had previously admitted that on May 9, at a house in the village, he uttered threats and abusive remarks in voicemail messages sent to his former partner.

Depute fiscal Jade Doig said Campbell and the complainer had been in a relationship "on and off" for about a year and a half and had a daughter together.

He had gone to the house where an argument had taken place and when she woke up, she had several abusive voicemails from her former partner.

"The complainer was extremely upset by the messages," Ms Doig told the court.

Defence solicitor Aimee Allan said there were "ongoing issues" in respect of contact with their child.

"He had consumed a large volume of alcohol on the occasion when these messages were sent," she said. "His actions appeared to be impulsive and fuelled by alcohol rather than planned offences."

She added that there was no current contact between the couple, however, Campbell's former partner was five months' pregnant with his child.

Sheriff Derek Reekie placed Campbell on a community payback order with supervision for 12 months and a requirement to do 80 hours of unpaid work within four months.

"This is the second domestic conviction you have," he told him. "The worst thing you can do in that sort of situation is behave in this way. It is not a way a responsible parent should go about obtaining contact for their child."
