A FINALIST in hit reality TV show Love Island cancelled their scheduled appearance in Dunfermline at the weekend.

Maura Higgins, who made it to the final of the ITV2 series, was set to appear in Lourenzo's on Saturday evening.

She was expected to meet fans in the town after spending almost two months on the programme, which aired for a fifth series.

However, the venue announced on Saturday that she would no longer be attending.

They posted on Facebook: "It is with deepest regret we have to bring the sad news that Maura has decided to CANCEL her gig at Lourenzos tonight!

"We were assured on Wednesday she would be attending and flights were booked.

"Her management are now claiming she has been admitted to hospital and is not well enough to fulfil her commitments.

"If this is the case we wish her well and hope she has a speedy recovery.

"Sincere apologies."

Filmed on the Spanish island of Majorca, male and female contestants, referred to as islanders, enter an isolated villa with the aim of "coupling up" with another to find romance, as well as the chance to win £50,000.

Higgins, together with Curtis Pritchard, made it to the final but, after a public vote, finished fourth, with Amber Gill and Greg O'Shea claiming the highest number to win a share of the prize money.

The show's finale attracted an average audience of 3.63 million, peaking at 4.05 million.
