A TEENAGE sex offender who used the name 'Jimmy Saville' on social media was jailed for five years today (Thursday) after raping an underage schoolgirl.

Reigh Braidwood attacked his 15-year-old victim after she had been drinking heavily in Rosyth.

Braidwood, 19, earlier denied raping the girl but, after he was found guilty of the assault, a jury heard he previously admitted other sex crimes before the trial started.

Two of the offences were committing sex acts with other underage girls, who were aged 14 and 15, one of which occurred on the same night as the rape in 2017.

A judge told Braidwood at the High Court in Edinburgh that despite his age, he had "a concerning record of previous offending".

Lord Pentland said that at the time of the rape his victim was "heavily intoxicated and unable to consent to sexual activity".

The judge said: "Despite her condition and vulnerability, you forced yourself on her for the purposes of your own sexual gratification."

He said a background report prepared on Braidwood concluded he had "a particularly negative attitude towards women and girls" and a propensity to exploit others for his satisfaction.

The judge ordered that Braidwood, who was detained at Polmont Young Offenders' Institution, should also be kept under close supervision for a further two years.

He told the teenage rapist that he would be on the sex offenders' register for the remainder of his life.

The rape victim told the court during Braidwood's trial that in September 2017, she was in contact with others through social media and arranged to go for a drink in Rosyth.

She said that three litres of Frosty Jack's cider was bought through someone who was old enough to purchase alcohol.

She said that after drinking, her vision was blurry and added: "I could hardly stand."

The teenager said she could remember Braidwood having some sexual contact with her at the grounds of a primary school.

She said of one sex act: "I didn't know what was going on and when I did I told him to stop."

She told advocate depute Susanne Tanner QC that he did not stop when she told him to. She said she kept on blacking out because of the drink.

She said she did not want to have intercourse with Braidwood and said: "I remember him being on top and I was sore and I was telling him I was sore, but he wasn't listening to me."

Braidwood was found guilty of raping the girl while she was intoxicated and incapable of consent on September 16 in 2017 during an assault at St John's Primary School, and two addresses in Rosyth.

He previously admitted having sex with another 15-year-old girl at a park, near Dunfermline railway station, between July 1 and September 30 in 2017.

The court heard that Braidwood later shared on a social media chat group that he had sex with the underage girl.

He also got a 14-year-old girl to carry out an oral sex act on him in Rosyth on the night of the rape.

He further admitted breaching bail and making threatening and abusive remarks at an address in Cowdenbeath.

The advocate depute said that during an investigation, police took possession of screenshots which showed the user name 'Jimmy Saville' and the profile picture of Braidwood.

She said: "Digital evidence was obtained by the police which showed that the Facebook account in the name of 'Jimmy Saville' which had been used to send messages belonged to the accused."

An NSPCC Scotland spokesperson said: “Braidwood carried out a number of disgraceful sexual attacks and has shown he is a danger to children. It is vital he receives treatment behind bars to reduce any risk he poses in the future.

“His victims have shown enormous bravery in speaking out about what happened to them and we hope they now receive the support needed to recover from their appalling ordeals.”
