A FORMER soldier has been sentenced after being found with indecent images of children at his home in Comrie.

Steven Penny, 56, of Bickram Crescent, appeared back in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He previously admitted that between January 1 and December 6 last year he downloaded indecent photographs of children.

Depute fiscal Alex Kirk told the court that police acting on intelligence executed a search warrant at Penny’s home and seized electronic devices.

It was found that he had downloaded 126 illegal images and 18 videos, some of which were in category ‘A’ for the worst type of material.

Penny had told police he looked at adult pornography which was a “borderline addiction” for him.

He said of the child images: “I genuinely can’t explain it. Last year wasn’t a good year.”

The court was told that Penny was separated from his wife.

He had previously served in the army for 22 years, reaching the rank of warrant officer and had been posted to Northern Ireland and Kosovo. He currently works in procurement.

Sheriff Craig McSherry imposed a two-year supervision order and Penny has been put on the sex offenders register
