Initial investigations suggest more of Woodmill High School will be able to be saved than first thought, Fife Council Co-leader David Alexander has told the Press.
A deep clean of the building will start as soon as the first demolition work is complete which expected to be in about a fortnight.
Fife Council believe they will know more about the exact state of the building by then.
Convener of Fife Council's education and children's services committee, Fay Sinclair, said: "The first phase of demolition work at Woodmill High School is well underway.
"As soon as this is complete, a deep clean will begin and this will let Fife Council see how much of the buildings can be used again.
"We'll then be able to plan for the required additional accommodation to get pupils back to Woodmill as soon as possible."
