A NEW beauty salon at Appin Crescent has been given planning permission.

Owners of the old post office want to turn part of the corner shop that has remained there into a salon.

Shop Local, the general store and newsagents currently at the premises, would be accessed from Couston Street while the entrance for the beauty salon would be at Appin Crescent.

The space will be walled off to create two separate businesses and there will be a new door in place of an existing window.

Shop Local is below residential flats and is also part of the Dunfermline conservation area.

The application has attracted some objections with concerns over increased traffic, lack of parking space and noise.

Although permitted, the planning permission has come with some conditions.

Fife Council have specified that the specification and colour of all proposed external finishes will have to be submitted for approval in writing by Fife Council as planning authority.

They have requested this in the interests of visual amenity and to ensure that the external finishing materials are appropriate to the character of the surrounding Dunfermline Conservation Area.
