UNCERTAINTY surrounds the future of a popular Dunfermline pub after it closed to customers yesterday (Wednesday).

A notice placed on the door of the Commercial Inn, Douglas Street, stated: "Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the pub will be closed today".

The premises remained closed today, and there have been - as yet unconfirmed - suggestions on social media that it will close on a permanent basis.

The Press have, so far, been unable to make contact with the business' proprietors to establish whether it will re-open.

The town centre bar was an award winner when it comes to pouring the perfect pint of real ale - on no less than five separate occasions.

After winning their inaugural title in 1998, they went on to be named CAMRA (The Campaign For Real Ale) Fife Pub of the Year four more times - in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2014.

Following their most recent win, the Commercial was also feted as one of Scotland's best five years ago, when it was named as the CAMRA Scottish Pub of the Year runner-up.

It only missed out on the national title by The Steam Packet Inn, at Isle of Whithorn, in Dumfries and Galloway.

We will have more on this story when we get it.
