A TOY FIGHT with his best friend escalated and ended up in a court appearance for High Valleyfield man Brian Waugh this week.

The altercation had been spotted by householders who contacted police after seeing the victim being punched to the face on several occasions.

However, the pair have since made up and the friend attended Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday to show his ongoing support.

Appearing in the dock for sentencing, Waugh, 29, of Ochilview Terrace, had previously admitted that on August 14, in Ochilview Drive, he assaulted a man by striking him repeatedly to the head.

Depute fiscal Jamie Roy said witnesses had heard a disturbance and looked out of their window to see Waugh arguing with another male before striking him on the chin. He stumbled backwards and appeared to be bleeding and was then punched two or three more times before walking away.

Solicitor Stephen Morrison said it appeared that the interaction had started off as "toy fighting" but his client accepted it had got out of hand.

"Something happened that resulted in him taking it further and punching what I understand to be his best friend," he said. "They remain best friends."

He said the friend was sitting in the court room and had come to lend his continuing support to Waugh.

Sheriff Charles Macnair placed Waugh on a community payback order requiring him to do 101 hours of unpaid work within six months.

He told him: "Assaulting your best friend is some mitigation but not much and it was committed whilst on bail."
