IT WAS huge cheers for two West Fife teenagers after they were selected to take part in the World Cheerleading Championships in Florida next year.

Ellie Goldwyre, 13, and Katie Junior, 15, who attend the Spotlight Cheer and Dance Studio in Dunfermline, successfully made it through trials in Glasgow for the Team Scotland squad and will now travel out to America in April.

Spotlight owner Katie Black was delighted to see the talents of her hard-working students recognised.

"It is brilliant. It is such a compliment for a coach," she said. "They train in one of my competitive teams more than three or four times a week and they had attended a national try-out.

"Kids from all over Scotland can attend and they were successful. It was a big thing and they are now going to compete as part of Team Scotland. It is fab.

"The competition is in Disney World so it is going to be such an experience for them. Over in America, the way they treat the sport there is something else. It is bigger and better and they get to meet all the teams from across the world."
