PET ferrets have been found on the loose across Rosyth on countless occasions in recent months.

In the most bizarre of incidents, one woman woke up with a ferret in her bed!

Other residents have also been shocked to find the furry animals appearing in their homes.

Mairi McDonald, who lives in Parkside Street, is just one local that has rescued a ferret and says it has been a recurring problem in the community.

"I've counted 15 to 20 different times when a post on social media says a ferret is lost," she said.

"And it's never the same ferret, that's the thing.

"One was killed by a car too recently so it's very concerning.

"I know of one that just walked into my friend's house and another that just showed up in a woman's bed!

"Can you imagine just lying there finding that!"

The Scottish SPCA has confirmed they have received reports regarding the ferrets and have attended the property where they are kept. Anyone with animal welfare concerns is being urged to contact the animal helpline on 03000 999 999.

Mairi added: "One ferret travelled about two miles before it was found.

"One had managed to get into a hut with another ferret in. If that had been a rabbit or a guinea pig then they would be dead.

"It's happened so many times – it's getting ridiculous!"
