THE Kingsgate Centre was transported to a galaxy far, far away when it hosted its first Sci-Fi Con on Saturday.

The Capital Sci-Fi Con: Dunfermline Invasion gave visitors the chance to see props from a range of blockbusters up close and even meet some stars from hit movies.

Iconic items from Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, Harry Potter and Gremlins were on show including Han Solo in Carbonite, the bike used in ET and a Wizard's Broom from Harry Potter.

Katie Purvis, who played the 'maternal Ewok' in Star Wars and also appeared in movies including Harry Potter and Labyrinth was in the centre to meet fans.

There were book readings, art displays and a Cosplay Competition for those who came in costume as well as an array of stalls.

Kingsgate Centre manager Neil Mackie said the day had been a great success.

"It was absolutely fantastic," he said. "We had a number of exhibitors in and the whole theme obviously was sci-fi. It was a major event for us and the main aspect of it was all the funds raised were going to CHAS so to me it was a fantastic event. Not only were we enlivening the centre but putting something back to a fantastic charitable organisation.

"The whole concept was there was a number of film props from a number of major movies like Batman and Gremlins and members of the public paid to go in and have photos taken next to them.

"The place was really busy, there was a really big uptake and lots of people dressed up for it too.

"It was the first time we have done it. We were aware it had been done in Falkirk and when the opportunity arose for us to consider it, it was a no-brainer."
