ODEON’s Dunfermline cinema is being considered for an upgrade to a ‘Luxe’ venue.

Our Press, Take, Action! campaign has put pressure on the screen giant since February to give West Fifers a fairer deal at the flicks.

And Carol Welch, managing director for UK & Ireland, exclusively revealed to us this week that a refurbishment is now on the cards.

She said: “I can confirm that Odeon Dunfermline is one of a number of UK cinemas being evaluated for potential Luxe refurbishment next year.

“However, this process is a long and involved one so, at this stage, we are unable to confirm whether the investment will progress or provide further information.

“When and if we do get to the point where we can share details, we will share these.”

Despite the good news that recliner seats, more leg room and tables for drinks and snacks could be on the way, uncertainty remains over how much tickets will be should the investment take place at Scotland’s most expensive cinema.

Ms Welch stated: “Our decision to consider Odeon Dunfermline for a Luxe refurbishment has been in motion for some time, but we do not have commercial details or plans (including ticket prices) confirmed at this time.”

The Odeon had submitted a planning application to Fife Council last month requesting permission to erect new signage displaying: “Odeon Luxe - IMAX” above the entrance.

The council approved the plans and should Odeon go ahead with them, it will become the fourth Luxe venue in Scotland.

They currently have three others at East Kilbride, Edinburgh West and Glasgow Quay.

All three – with better facilities – offer cheaper tickets than the Fife Leisure Park complex.

Around 1,400 people have signed our petition demanding Odeon cut prices for film fans in the Dunfermline and West Fife area.

It has gained the support of local politicians and the Dunfermline Cinema Project was formed to bring a community cinema to the heart of the town after being inspired by our campaign.

The number of names on our petition is now enough to fill SEVEN of the venue’s 10 screens at once.
