THE brother of a former St Columba’s High School pupil who died in his sleep has raised thousands in his memory.

Student Cameron Scott from Cowdenbeath took on the gruelling Spartan Race with help for 18 of his friends to raise funds for a bereavement charity.

Cameron’s brother, Gregor, died unexpectedly in his sleep aged just eighteen last November.

He had just begun studying at Perth College when he was tragically found dead by his flatmates.

Cameron, aged 21, signed up to complete the 25km Spartan Race to fundraise in his memory, and 18 other friends quickly decided to join him – a tribute to the kind-hearted young man Gregor was.

Cameron Scott presented Child Bereavement UK with a cheque for £2,417.10 at McEwan Hall in Edinburgh last week after completing the challenge.

The charity, which has a service in Glasgow, supports families and trains professionals both when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying, and when a child is facing bereavement.

Cameron said: "Child Bereavement UK helps people who are struggling through the hard journey of grief, just as we did when Gregor died.

"It’s been very difficult since he died, and I didn’t think at first that I’d be able to live with it.

"However, I am learning to deal with losing Gregor though, and in many ways, I’m living two lives – one for him and one for me.

"I would like to thank everyone for their donations and support and of course my team!

"I am also thankful for the continued support I am receiving.

"I hope to raise more money in the future."

Cameron is currently a fourth-year student at the University of Edinburgh, studying for a degree in Sport and Recreation Management.

A keen sportsman, who has taken part in many running events in the past, Cameron chose to take part in The Spartan Race in the heart of Perth, where Gregor was a student.

Derek Kirkaldy, Regional Fundraising Manager for Child Bereavement UK said: "Cameron and his friends should be very proud of their achievement.

"Child Bereavement UK is so grateful for the fundraising they have done in Gregor’s memory.

"The funds raised will help us support even more families, helping them to rebuild their lives after the devastation of bereavement."

Those who competed to raise the money for Child Bereavement UK included; Emily Drummond, Dan Drummond, Hugh Bradley, Finlay burns, Nico Kaufmann , John - Liston Brown, Iain Wedge, Lewis Aitken, Matthew Spaven, Joseph Chalmers, Sebastián Urrutia, Conor Blaikie, Grace Carson, Jamie Ferrier, OwenTurnbull, Reegan McNulty and Alan McDonald.
