A DUNFERMLINE man who went on a high speed 40-mile police chase with a missing pregnant teenager has been locked up for 12 months.

Shea Donnelly, 20, clocked 110mph during the pursuit, which also involved a police helicopter, from Glasgow's Maryhill to a farm in Saline in January this year.

He was with his 17 year-old partner – who was 20 weeks pregnant and had been reported missing by her mother.

He was eventually caught and then tried to blame the police for what happened.

Donnelly was today sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court having earlier admitted to a charge of dangerous driving.

He was also banned from the road for three and a half years.

A hearing was told Donnelly had breached a bail order not to contact his partner.

His Vauxhall Corsa was later flagged down by police while the girl was with him.

Donnelly refused to stop and initially went at speeds of up to 80mph.

Prosecutor Lori Pidgeon said: “Donnelly overtook vehicles. Once he left the M8 motorway he was driving at speeds of 110mph using the hard shoulder to get away.”

The chase also involved a police helicopter being deployed.

He was eventually followed to Gibsley Farm in Saline.

Miss Pidgeon added: “Donnelly left the vehicle but was driven back to the police by the farmer before being arrested.”

Donnelly's lawyer David McLaughlin said he "got a fright" that night due to his bail conditions.

The court was told Donnelly tried to blame the police in a pre-sentencing report.

Mr McLaughlin added: "He went on to say his actions were caused by the unacceptable behaviour of the police officers who began to pursue him.

"It's preposterous but when I asked him about this he said he didn't say that. He clearly has said it."
