Water supplies are beginning to be restored to Crossgates.

Crossgates Primary School and nursery have closed today due to the water problems.

The incident was first reported to Scottish Water at 6am today (Thursday).

Water supply issues are affecting around 1400 properties in the area and Scottish Water are working to restore supplies as soon as possible.

Fife Council says it will update parents when they get more information from Scottish Water.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: "Scottish Water has started restoring water supplies to customers in the Crossgates area following an issue which led to a loss of supply, low pressure or discoloured water.

Supplies are now being restored to about 1400 properties in parts of Crossgates, Fordell and Coaledge, which were affected following an operational issue on our local network late last night.

We have worked to restore supplies as quickly as possible by altering the network and tankering water in.

When individual properties have supplies restored will vary and could depend on their location on our network.

Following an issue of this nature, there is sometimes a risk of further disruption but we will do everything possible to maintain supplies.

As the water is restored, affected customers might experience some discoloured water. If so, they should run the cold tap at a steady flow in their kitchen until it runs clear.

We apologise for any inconvenience to customers and thank them for their patience and understanding while we worked to resolve the issue.
