A DRUNK woman was found slumped over the wheel of her car on a busy road in Dunfermline.

Beata Giecewicz fell asleep when driving on the dual carriageway near the King Malcolm Hotel in broad daylight.

An off-duty police officer had to wake up Giecewicz, 43, of Inchgarvie Crescent, Dunfermline.

Giecewicz appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court with a Polish translator.

She admitted that on October 8, in Queensferry Road, she drove a car when unfit to do so through drink or drugs.

Then, at Dunfermline police station, she failed to provide breath specimens.

Depute fiscal Laura McManus said that at around 2.05pm, a Fiat 500 car was seen stopped near the King Malcolm Hotel roundabout.

“The accused was in the driver’s seat slumped over the steering wheel,” she added.

An off-duty police officer opened the car door, tried to wake up Giecewicz and could smell a strong smell of alcohol.

“The accused was crying, drowsy and slurring her words. She appeared to be under the influence of alcohol,” said the depute.

When taken to the police station, Giecewicz refused to give breath specimens.

Defence solicitor Roshni Joshi said her client was going through “difficult family circumstances” at the time.

Sheriff Charles MacNair banned Giecewicz from driving for 16 months and fined her £865.
