THE Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Scotland will perform a concert in Dunfermline to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the death of Andrew Carnegie.

Among a wide selection of music will be a march written especially for the occasion by Band Sergeant Andy Spain, entitled ‘Carnegie 100’, and of course a display by the world-renowned Corps of Drums.

The band, which is based at MoD Caledonia in Rosyth, will be playing a matinee concert in Carnegie Hall on Sunday, November 24, from 3pm.

They'll be under the baton of Major Steve Green, their current director of music, who said: "We are humbled to be playing a concert with a theme inspired by a true local hero and music-lover; it is especially apt that the concert is held in our regular venue, Carnegie Hall, named after Andrew Carnegie himself."

Dunfermline's most famous son was born in a humble weaver’s cottage on Moodie Street in Dunfermline and became one of the wealthiest men in history following the huge expansion of the American steel industry.

A leading philanthropist, he is celebrated for giving away almost 90 per cent of his fortune to charities, foundations and universities.

Tickets for the concert are £15, concessions are £12 and it's £5 for under-18s. They are available from Carnegie Hall box office, on 01383 602302, or by visiting onfife.com.
