A CHILD'S toy caused mass alarm in Dunfermline as armed police officers responded to a man with a 'crossbow'.
Police received reports of a man in possession of a weapon in the early hours of Saturday morning on Broomhead Drive at around 12.35am.
Surrounding roads were cordoned off as officers attended the scene and an ambulance was also called out.
However, it quickly transpired that the 'weapon' was actually a toy crossbow which had been given to the man as a present earlier in the evening.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.35 am on Saturday, November 23, police received a report of a male in possession of a crossbow in Broomhead Drive, Dunfermline.
“Police attended and it was established that the item in question was actually a toy crossbow.
“Advice was given and no further police action taken.”
