DUNFERMLINE Co-op customers have combined to help give a pre-Christmas treat to three local good causes.

Donations totalling over £13,000 were placed in the baskets of the Abbeyview Kids Club, the Dunfermline Junior Chorus and the Queen Margaret Hospice at a special celebration on Saturday.

The cash was raised through the retailer's loyalty scheme from its Linburn Road, Robertson Road and Shamrock Street stores.

Caren Webb, deputy manager at the Linburn Road store, said Abbeyview kids club were getting a total of £4292.61, Dunfermline junior chorus were to receive £4156.17 and £5022.41 going to the Queen Margaret Hospice.

"It was raised through the customers in store," she explained. "One per cent that they get on their membership cards go to the charities. The charities get in contact and they apply for it then the staff in the stores choose the three they want to nominate.

"We do it every year and this year it was nearly £13,500 we gave out so it is quite a lot."
