PARENTS who believe their kids' lives are at risk by having to cross the M90 slip road to get to school will protest on Monday.

A planned demonstration walk has attracted attention from across three Rosyth primary schools.

The walk-to-school route from Rosyth to Inverkeithing was deemed safe by Fife Council despite deep opposition from parents and politicians in the summer.

The decision meant that Rosyth families have had no help with transport costs and protesters believe they are left with a choice of risking their child's safety or more financial burdens.

Despite a 1,000-signature petition and multiple attempts by local councillors to revoke the decision, parents feel they are being "ignored".

Organiser Kerry Humphries told the Press: "We're asking for as many people as possible to come along.

"We presented a petition, councillors have done everything to try to change it and it's all fallen on deaf ears.

"We feel like we're being ignored.

"We're not going to go away – parents are either driving or having to pay £10 a week for transport.

"We now have to make a noise."

It was back in January that the Press first highlighted that kids would have to cross the M90 slip road as a ‘safe route’ to get to and from Inverkeithing.

The issue has escalated since King’s Road and Camdean primary schools were moved to Inverkeithing High in the secondary school catchment shake-up.

Under the walked routes to school policy, it is assumed that a child will be accompanied by an adult. An average journey between Rosyth and Inverkeithing takes 45 minutes, meaning parents would be expected to take at least three hours out of the day just to walk their child to high school.

An assessment, which took place on May 30, included 11 Fife Council employees, who concluded that both walking routes via the M90 slip road and Castlandhill Road were suitable.

Fife Council said they would reassess the routes during the winter to make sure they were “still available” but when that will take place is yet to be revealed.

Kerry, whose daughter is in Primary 7 at King's Road Primary, said: "We are being ignored and it's the same old story.

"The education committee completely ignored us over the catchment changes.

"This is the reason why we did not want to be moved from Dunfermline High and now we find ourselves in the situation we did not want to see.

"We're being penalised for living on the wrong side of the M90.

"People are frustrated.

"Even if the new Inverkeithing High is built in Rosyth, there are always going to be a group of children that have to cross that dangerous slip road to get to school.

"Please come and support us and for any Inverkeithing parents that are worried then come and make a noise with us."

The protest will set off at the back steps of Kings Road Primary on Admiralty Road at 7.50 am.
