MUSICAL youngsters from St Margaret's RC Primary teamed up with old friends from Leys Park Nursing Home this week to record a special Christmas song.

Members of the school's Glee Choir went into the home to do a remix version of the Warm Hearts' Collective's 'Warm Hearts' tune.

They were joined by Elaine Shorthouse, from the Collective, and even had to teach the residents the festive song before they were recorded.

Teacher Terri McLean said it had been an enjoyable – and emotional – session.

"It was actually beautiful – it was really lovely," she said. "I think that singing songs for Warm Hearts gives you warm hearts.

"As a Glee choir, we have been going to see the residents at Leys Park at Christmas and at summer time and at Easter for the last five years. I know Elaine, who is one of the people associated with the Warm Hearts Collective, and I had an idea that I wanted to help support her cause as an independent charity single for Christmas.

"We decided to get the children in on the act and they said it would be really lovely to record the song but with the Leys Park residents."

The children helped to teach the Leys Park participants the Warm Hearts song before their joint performance.

"It is something not a lot of people have got involved in so they have been lucky to be able to do it," said Mrs McLean. "The fact that they have been able to not just record it but with the residents as well, makes it even more special.

"They were quite emotional seeing how happy all the residents are – it is the same every year.

"They have had a lot of success as a Glee Choir but what is really important as a teacher and as a mum is the children give back to the community."

The Warm Hearts Collective is a group of family and friends living and working in South Queensferry, Edinburgh and Dunfermline. Songwriter Colin Graham – himself a school teacher in Dunfermline – has more than 80 songs in his catalogue and was inspired by last year's Christmas lights switch-on to write the song, 'Warm Hearts'.

Its YOUR VOICE campaign invites choirs, schools, community groups and individuals to not only sing their song but get their own remixed version to own forever next year.
