A KELTY woman who called police in the hope of getting a lift home has appeared in court.

Georgina Malcolm, 52, of Main Street, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

She had previously admitted that on May 24 last year, at a house in Rosehill Crescent Cowdenbeath, she falsely stated to police that she was stranded and unable to get home with nowhere to stay.

This caused officers to devote their time and services to this claim which she knew to be false and did deprive the public of their services temporarily.

Malcolm's defence agent said his client was now registered blind and her sight had deteriorated in the last year.

"The incident related to a drinking session with her sister who lives six-and-a-half miles away," he said. "She is embarrassed at what she did that evening and she doesn't intend to dial the police again."

Sheriff Alastair Brown placed Malcolm on a community payback order with supervision for 12 months.

He told her: "Be a bit more sensible in the future."
