SENDING offensive messages on social media resulted in a Dunfermline man being ordered to do unpaid work this week.
Mark Cook, 26, of Hawkiesfauld Way, had previously admitted that on October 4 last year, at a house in Daly Gardens, High Valleyfield, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner when he posted numerous comments on social media directed towards his ex-partner that were of an offensive and derogatory nature. He also uttered a threat of violence.
Solicitor Ian Beatson said his client had been in a relationship with the complainer. "She had apparently been posting matters on Facebook," he said. "He responded and appreciates he shouldn't have done so. He was under the influence of Valium. He takes the matter seriously."
Sheriff Alastair Brown ordered Cook to do 100 hours of unpaid work within nine months.
