A KINCARDINE man took his mum’s car without her permission and then refused to take a breath test for police.

As a result, Gary McBurney, 30, of Cameron Place, appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, where he received a driving ban.

He admitted that on Sunday (February 2) at Croftangry Road, Kelty, he took and drove away a car without the consent of the owner.

He also admitted that in Croftangry Road and elsewhere in Fife, he drove without insurance.

McBurney further admitted that at Dunfermline police station, he failed to provide two specimens of breath to be analysed for alcohol consumption.

Defence solicitor Roshni Joshi said: “The owner of the vehicle is his mother, who he resides with.”

Sheriff Charles MacNair called for reports and McBurney will be sentenced on February 26. A temporary driving ban with immediate effect was imposed until sentencing.

The sheriff allowed bail but warned McBurney: “This is a very serious matter having regard to your record.”
