THE first two photographs in this week's trip down West Fife's Memory Lane are from the Press archives and are reminders of the time just before and during the Second World War. The first shows an Anderson shelter, for protection against air raids, being erected in a garden in Burnside Place in Rosyth in 1939 by Benjamin Richards (pictured on the left) and helpers. The second photograph is of the aftermath of a German bombing raid on Monday, November 4, 1940, when a high-explosive bomb fell on a row of miners' cottages in the village of Kingseat, causing the death of a 71-year-old retired miner, Joseph Pollock.
