A £120,000 project to improve the footway at Kirkgate in Dunfermline begins next month.

The reconstruction of the path from the Abbey in Dunfermline to the High Street will start on March 16 and continue until April 3.

A road closure will be in place to carry out the works safely and a sign-posted diversion route will be in place via Canmore Street, New Row, East Port, Carnegie Drive and Glen Bridge.

There will be access for emergency services, deliveries and any prior arrangements before the closure on 16 March. A traffic marshal will be located at the entrance of the Maygate to assist with delivery vehicles.

Cllr Altany Craik, Convener of Economy, Tourism, Strategic Planning and Transportation Committee said: “We maintain over 2,400 km of roads in Fife and are spending millions each year repairing and improving them.

“Our road network is vital to support economic development, inward investment, tourism, leisure and travel to work. Almost everyone in Fife uses our roads on a daily basis, which is why this type of maintenance work is so essential.”

Cllr Craik concluded: “We apologise for any inconvenience and delay caused by these essential works, and we will try to keep any disturbance to a minimum. Your patience and co-operation during this time is greatly appreciated.”
