FORGET Coronation Street for award-winning drama, Canmore Street in Dunfermline is the place to be.

Three businesses just doors apart from each other all left a recent awards ceremony with gold in their clutches.

Canmore House Bar & Restaurant, Queens Beauty & Nails, and Studio-X were all up for separate awards at the Fife Retail Business Awards.

Canmore House scooped Best New Food Business; Queens Beauty won Best New Nail Salon; and Studio-X collected the Best New Business gong.

The award wins came as a shock to all of the owners, who each felt that there was no chance of walking out of the prizegiving with victory to their name.

Barry and Tracey Finlayson, who opened the Canmore back in November, were stunned to hear their name read out during the Fife night of the Scotland's Business Awards.

They told the Press: "We were very shocked and humbled – it really came out of the blue.

"As we're such a new business, we never thought we'd be in contention, so we have to thank all of our customers that voted for us.

"It's amazing for the town to have three businesses all doing well and supporting each other.

"We're both delighted for Studio-X and Queens Beauty & Nails. They've congratulated us as well and it really shows that there's a community spirit here.

"You hear all the time about local shops closing their doors for good, and it seems to be all doom and gloom, but this really gives the town a shot in the arm. It's great for Dunfermline."

Those views are echoed by Suzanne Main, owner of Queens Beauty & Nails.

She's run the nail salon since May 2018 and has recently completed renovation work which has doubled the size of her space to attract new clients.

Suzanne said: "I have to thank our customers for taking the time out of their day to lend us support.

"We always try to bend over backwards for our clients and hope that they come back and value our services.

"Winning this award is great and it feels like the work we've put in has paid off.

"It's great for the street as well to have all three of us winning different awards. We like being here and our customers now often go to the Canmore and to Studio-X as well now, so we're all working together to help each other."

Lisa Gibson was "absolutely astounded" when Studio-X was crowned as Best New Business after just eight months in operation.

Studio-X offers a variety of kids and adult fitness classes, which includes pole fitness, aerial hoops, aerial hammocks and trapeze, as well as hosting children's birthday parties.

Lisa said: "Our award category was the first of the night and we were up against another nine businesses from across Fife.

"To win, at such a prestigious event, was incredible. I didn't know what to say when I was given the microphone when receiving the award. I think I was in shock a little.

"Business has been going great and after all the had work that's been put in, this is an added and much appreciated bonus."

All three businesses will now travel through to Glasgow for the Grand Final of the awards on Sunday, May 24.
