A MAN has died after being trapped in a mine in Charlestown.
Emergency services raced to the scene near Main Road yesterday (Saturday) afternoon.
The rescue operation was ongoing for more than three hours.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers assisted emergency services partners following a report that a man was trapped in a mine near Main Road, Charlestown, Fife, around 2.30pm on Saturday, 14 March, 2020.
"A 51-year-old man was rescued from the mine shaft but was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The death is being treated as unexplained. Enquiries are ongoing."
