A DUNFERMLINE lorry driver who was surprised by his girlfriend with a 40th birthday trip to the 'Big Apple' turned the tables by proposing to her in Central Park.

That's Central Park in New York ... not Cowdenbeath!

Brian Parrish, 40, was left gobsmacked when Nicola Watt surprised him to say they were going on a dream trip to the city on February 16.

Just two weeks later, it was Brian that was pulling off the surprises with a leap year proposal at Strawberry Fields in Central Park.

"Yes, I don't think she would have been too pleased if I proposed in Cowdenbeath!" Brian told the Press.

"I'd always wanted to go to New York since I was a kid so I was over the moon when Nicola told me.

"So to attempt to go one better I thought I'd propose!

"I had been thinking about proposing anyway but I only had a few days to buy a ring.

"I then hid it in my suitcase, thankfully she didn't find it! "

The couple have been together for more than three years and met on Tinder.

"So dating apps do work!" Brian added.

"We're both into our music so Strawberry Fields has got a special meaning.

"As it was leap year, everyone was winding Nicola up asking if she was going to propose to me while we were in New York!

"But she never got a chance as I beat her to it!

"For me, it was terrifying though as when we got to the spot it was really busy.

"I thought I'm just going to have to get on with it!

"There was a couple of randoms taking photos and videos.

"You know what Americans are like so they were all clapping and cheering.

"It was quite embarrassing!

"We don't have a date yet but Nicola is always on her phone looking at venues and dresses!"
