THERE have been 182 objections to the plans to build a new McDonald’s restaurant and drive-thru in the Tesco Extra car park in Duloch.

The fast food chain submitted a planning application to Fife Council seeking permission to open the outlet off Turnstone Road, which would create 65 jobs.

However, the proposals have been met with considerable opposition – and three supportive comments – with concerns about the traffic impact, increased noise and litter, and health and wellbeing.

The plans show the burger joint in the northern section of the car park, across the road from the Aldi store, and the proposal would result in the loss of 67 car-parking spaces at the Tesco supermarket.

The aim is to open next year and the application includes a digital drive-thru, play frame, seating, landscaping and associated works.

A planning statement submitted on behalf of McDonald’s said: “After a review of their property portfolio, Tesco have found that some parts of the existing car parks were underused and surplus to their requirements.

“There is consequently an opportunity to introduce a complementary use that would support the overall retail function and enhance the range of facilities available to customers.”

It added that there would be “sufficient” parking at the new restaurant and the loss of spaces “will not compromise the overall provision available for the Tesco superstore”.

Given the number of objections, the application will now go to the west and central planning committee for a decision.

McDonald’s are also hoping to add a digital drive-thru at their current outlet in Dunfermline at Fife Leisure Park.
