HERE'S a look at the Press archives from the last time Dunfermline faced a crisis akin to the one it's currently dealing with today – during the Second World War between 1939 and 1945.

The first one shows servicemen being served tea by the YMCA outside Benachie House beside the Carnegie Hall.

As part of the war effort, people were encouraged to donate scrap metal for Spitfire', and the second image shows the results of one such collection in Dunfermline at the junction of Carnegie Drive and Pilmuir Street just outside where pub Coadys is today.

The next two photographs are provided courtesy of Press reader Ian Ross. The first one shows a group of young people playing putting at the top of the Public Park behind the Carnegie Hall.

The final photograph is a view of the junction of James Street and East Port Street.

More photographs like these can be seen in Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries when it reopens to the public, and also at facebook.com/olddunfermline.
