WEST FIFE learners have had their driving tests cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

All driving and vehicle tests due to take place on Thursday and Friday have been postponed, leaving many instructors without an income.

Theory tests have been suspended for four weeks.

Dunfermline instructor Bob Baker, Scottish chairman of the The Motor Schools Association of Great Britain, said: "Most of us have staying clear of lessons.

"Under government guidelines, it's very difficult to keep two metres apart in a car!

"I've stopped my lessons and I think most people have so I'm without an income."

A spokesman for the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), which is responsible for tests in Britain, said the action had been taken "to help reduce the spread of Covid-19".

He added a testing service would remain available for those with a "critical need".

That could include NHS workers needed to drive ambulances, delivery drivers, or fire brigades with an engine requiring its annual test.

Other learners will have their tests rebooked automatically free of charge "as soon as possible".

Candidates will get an email to confirm this has been done but it may take a few weeks to arrive.

The DVSA say customers should not try to rebook their tests right now and they will candidates you when they can book again.
