A TRIO of West Fife superheroes are pounding the streets to put a smile on children's faces.

Batman, Spider-Man and Supergirl have all been sighted running in Duloch, Pitcorthie and Rosyth in the past fortnight to keep their fitness levels up.

Dave Roper kickstarted the local trend after donning the famous costume and dubbing himself 'Duloch Spider-Man' to raise money for his son's school.

The Press highlighted his efforts in last week's paper and he's gone on to raise nearly £3,000 for Calaiswood School which his autistic son, Liam, attends.

His strides inspired Steven Wardrop to become 'Pitcorthie Batman'.

The Caped Crusader even met Spiderman on Saturday at Masterton roundabout to share crime-fighting tips and pause for a 'social-distancing selfie'.

Steven told the Press: "I thought what Dave was doing was brilliant.

"I said to my wife that as I had a Batman costume upstairs, why don't I go for a run and see how many children I could see and wave to.

"I've done more running in the past week than I have in the past month as a result.

"The parents are bringing their children out to their front door to see me and the amount of adults who have tooted at me in their car has been fantastic as well – it's been a good laugh.

"The other night, someone filmed me going past their house and all you could hear was a wee boy shouting, 'There's Batman!'

"Watching that video back was absolutely brilliant and it makes it all worth it."

Steven admitted that he'll need to be careful to not step on any toes while he's running though just in case he starts a "turf war".

He said: "I did run up to Duloch the other day but I'll stick to Pitcorthie so there isn't a turf war with Spiderman!

"Imagine if the two of us were rolling about the floor fighting with each other and the police had to split us up! I don't think that would be good social distancing!"

The Rosyth area is currently in Supergirl's domain with Debbie Miller the latest West Fife superhero.

She was also inspired by Spiderman's efforts and has since grabbed her trainers and cape for runs around the town.

She told the Press: "I did a marathon as Wonder Woman before but the outfit was really uncomfortable.

"So I've decided on Supergirl this time!

"My friends and family have all said it's a brilliant idea so I'm going to hit as many streets as possible in the coming weeks.

"They weren't overly-surprised when I told them about my idea. They're used to seeing me make an idiot of myself so this is nothing new for them.

"I'm excited to see people's reactions and hopefully it'll put some smiles on people's faces."
