GRAHAM'S Family Dairy in Inverkeithing have had to lay off staff and furlough workers due to a drop in demand.

That's as a result of the coronavirus outbreak and they've also stated they're doing "everything we can" to ensure their employees are protected.

A member of the public, who did not want to be named, raised concerns that Graham's were "not putting safety of staff first".

They said: "There's no social distancing in place, no gloves, no masks and drivers out delivering then coming back to the depot and mixing.

"They could be carrying and passing the virus on. They posted on their Facebook page that staff safety is their number one concern so why not protect them and the families they have to go home to at the end of the shift?"

Shaun Dorrian, operations director at Graham's, responded: "We are absolutely taking this seriously and trying to work through this as best we can.

"The Inverkeithing site supplies Fife and Edinburgh but the market for Edinburgh in particular, with the closure of hotels and restaurants, has been decimated.

"Some staff have been furloughed and we've had to let some go. We've also got 80 members of staff self-isolating just now."

Food production companies are classed as 'essential' during the pandemic and employees are key workers, helping to keep shops and supermarkets supplied.

Mr Dorrian added: "We're doing everything we can to make sure our staff are safe.

"Our drivers don't have face masks as I can't get any right now, we've been trying everywhere but even nurses in the NHS are struggling to get masks just now.

"The ones we did manage to get were given to the production staff.

"We have key workers on the frontline dealing with customers and we're doing everything to ensure they are safe.

"We've got signs up about social distancing, we've got hand sanitisers and we're taking the temperature of our staff every morning as they come on site.

"If it's too high, they're sent home.

"We're doing everything the government is asking us to do."
