INVERKEITHING magician Cameron Young had Britain's Got Talent judges hooked on his mesmerising performance.

Cameron wowed Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon with his fish hook act that earned him a place in the next round.

The 23-year-old, who performed for guests arriving at the Press Community Champions Awards last summer, has been performing magic since the age of eight and appearing on the London Palladium stage back in January is a moment he'll never forget.

He told the Press: "It was a surreal experience. To perform in front of thousands of people at that venue was amazing.

"The judges' reaction was great and I'm pleased that I got through.

"David's comments were the kindest as he was very complimentary about the act.

"It's definitely right up there as one of the best moments I've had in my career so far."

Cameron appeared on stage and, in front of the judges' desk, placed a fish hook – connected to four large lengths of string – in his mouth.

As Cameron couldn't speak, a video appeared of him on the screen to guide the judges through the trick.

Each judge held the end of one string before Ant and Dec named one judge at a time to pull their string out quickly.

Dixon and Holden pulled their threads out with Walliams then asked to place his string down on the table.

Cowell was the last to yank the thread and once it broke, Cameron revealed that the fish hook was connected to Walliams' string and he was able to take it out of his mouth unharmed.

The trick wowed the audience and his parents in the audience – who were only told on the day what their son was about to do!

"My mum was freaking out a little!" he said. "My dad is used to me doing daring tricks – like driving around Knockhill blindfold – so he was a bit calmer."

His appearance on ITV's nationwide competition aired last week but his next appearance is up in the air due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The outbreak has unfortunately resulted in Cameron having to postpone many of his own shows for later in the year.

He has previously been crowned Edinburgh's 2018 and 2019 Close-Up Magician of the Year.
