Contractors are back on site at Woodmill High School to get the building ready for the potential return of pupils at the start of the school year.

Repair and rebuilding work for the school, which was seriously damaged by fire in August 2019, had been halted when the country went into lockdown in March this year at the start of the Covid 19 crisis.

Work has begun again now, and it's hoped that the site will be ready for the return of most pupils in August.

The work has been classed as essential in line with guidance from the Scottish Government and all work being carried out is in accordance with safe social distancing measures.

The first pupils were able to return to the school back in January while work continued to enable the return of the remainder of the school.

Unfortunately, when Covid19 hit the pupils had to leave the school yet again and the building work was stopped.

Shelagh McLean, Head of Education at Fife Council, said: "Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, it was not possible to continue with construction work at Woodmill High School, from March onwards.

"Now that work has resumed we are confident that the school will be ready to accept most pupils back in August, depending on any ongoing or further Covid restrictions.

"We understand how difficult this last year has been for our pupils, staff and their families and we can't thank them enough for their ongoing support, patience and understanding.

"The pause in the work programme means the space for Woodmill DAS pupils will not be ready until after the October holidays.

"They will stay at Blairhall Primary School, between August and October 2020.

"This also means that all Blairhall pupils, will remain within Tulliallan Primary School during this time. Their parents have all been contacted."
