THE son of a postie has delivered on his promise to complete a charity challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Jaden Mackay laced up his running shoes on Monday morning as the Crossford youngster prepared for his 10K effort.

The eight-year-old completed a circuit from Crossford – through Crombie and Cairneyhill – and back in under an hour.

He has blown away the initial £50 fundraising target with the amount of donations now reaching a whopping £1,340.

His dad, Stuart, said: "Jaden was a bit pressured before the run as he was overwhelmed with people's generosity and with the big challenge ahead of him.

"After the run he was delighted with the amount of money raised and to accomplish his goal of running the 10K in under one hour (59 minutes, 51 seconds).

"We are all so proud of Jaden."

The huge total of donations spurred the young runner forwards and he was delighted to achieve his goal.

He said: "I found the run tough but the thought of helping so many people in need got me through it.

"I am feeling really chuffed with myself."

Jaden, a member of Dunfermline Track and Field Club, decided to raise money for Macmillan after being inspired by a TV documentary which highlighted that charities are losing out on sponsorship money due to race cancellations.

Macmillan were delighted by Jaden's efforts and a spokesperson said: "This really is a fantastic effort from Jaden and to get such a fast time too.

"We know how much he put into this and to raise so much for us – it's very impressive.

"I want to thank Jaden for raising funds for Macmillan during a time when our fundraising has taken a huge downturn. He's most certainly an inspiration.

"Well done Jaden, you're amazing! We hope you enjoyed a celebration at the end."
