A TALENTED Dunfermline artist has drawn a poignant portrait for the family of a nurse who has died tragically of coronavirus.

Allan Watters has been paying tribute to NHS workers across the UK by painting their portraits for free.

Among his artwork, he has created a special piece for the family of Anujkumar Kuttikkottu Pavithran, known as

Kumar, who died on April 27, at the age of just 44 in Boston.

Dad-of-two Kumar had qualified as a nurse last autumn and continued to care for the sick through the pandemic even though he was diabetic and deemed at high risk himself.

Allan told the Press it was incredibly "emotional" creating his portrait.

"It's incredibly sad what's happened to Kumar," the 71-year-old said.

"Although he had only been a qualified nurse for seven months, Kumar had been a health care support worker at the hospital he worked in for many years.

"Reading from the fundraising page that has been set up to support his family, Kumar was clearly a much-loved colleague and his colleagues organised a 'blue-light clap' outside Boston Pilgrim last Thursday evening.

"Unbelievably, Kumar’s wife has just come out of hospital after also suffering from the virus.

"It was a very emotional experience drawing him, I was so determined to do a good job for him.

"You really feel it when you're drawing his features, thinking about his life and what he was doing."

Alan has so far created three portraits and is onto his fourth piece.

He first offered his services after artist Tom Croft started the initiative and now hundreds of NHS workers have their very own portraits displaying the heroes that they are.

He came to know about Kumar after drawing his colleague, Christina Whicker, who is also a nurse at Boston Pilgrim Hospital. His other subject was Mandy Vanessa Fox who works at Royal Preston Hospital as a healthcare assistant whilst also studying a degree in nursing!

Alan added: "It takes about three or four days to complete portrait so you feel that you've come to know the person even though you've never met them! You come to find out more about them and even build a friendship with themselves and their families through the process."

As reported previously in the Press, the native of Dunfermline, who lives near Devizes, has also been selling work in aid of causes fighting coronavirus. He's so far raised £750 but hopes to reach £1,000.

The price of each painting is £25 plus postage. Visit https://alansfineart.com.
