IF YOU could walk a mile in Keir McMeekin's football boots you'd have to do hundreds of keepie-uppies a day.

The Pattiesmuir youngster has raised more than £1,800 for the NHS by doing one mile of football trickery each day for the past 26 days.

With those 26 miles now recorded, Keir's marathon effort was rewarded with a rib-eye steak and chips for his dinner last Wednesday.

The 10-year-old, who plays for Heart of Midlothian's under-11 squad, had set out initially to do a mile of keepie-uppies for one week.

However, his proud dad, Scott, told the Press that once his son accomplished that feat he was eager to keep going as a way of saying thank you to the NHS.

"Once he said he'd like to do 26 miles, I knew he'd see it through," Scott commented.

"To do the same challenge every day, for 26 days, is no easy task as it's repetitive, but he was excellent.

"I think he's done around 55,000 keepie-uppies since he started – definitely in the mid 50s.

"Some days were more of a grind than others but he got there and I had no doubts that he'd finish.

"He's really pleased with how much money he's been able to raise. I think he's been quite overwhelmed by the number of people that have supported him.

"A few Jambos (Heart supporters) have contributed to the pot as well – that was nice to see.

"Keir asked me at the start of the challenge whether I thought he'd raise £100.

"To raise £1,800 during these hard times is an incredible effort and I'm really proud of him."

There are currently no signs of Scott following in his son's footsteps with a challenge of his own.

"No chance," he laughed. "I've done marathons in the past – I've done my bit!"
