FIFE Sports and Leisure Trust (FSLT) are stepping up preparations to welcome back the public to their facilities.

Measures are being taken to allow people to get active both indoors and outdoors when Scottish Government guidance allows.

The Government's four-phase route map for relaxing lockdown restrictions will see sports courts reopen in phase two.

Gyms and indoor facilities will then follow in phase three.

Although a clear date cannot be set for the opening of any venues for obvious reasons, the trust insists that they will be ready to do so.

Scott Urquhart, sport and physical activity team manager, FSLT, said: “We would very much like to be in a position to give our customers a definite date for when we are able to open doors on our facilities and we welcome the Scottish Government’s recently-announced route map as it relates to sports and leisure activities which outlines a phased return to our operations.

"Following the government guidelines, we would expect the opening of outdoor facilities such as sports courts in phase two, followed by gyms and indoor facilities in phase three until further restrictions are eased in phase four.

“However, we are already working hard to get facilities ready, putting into practice the best health and safety protocols so that people can use our centres with the assurance that all guidance is being followed.

"We are committed to delivering facilities and programmes which will allow people to get active safely and where staff have a protected work environment."

The trust operates sports facilities such as Carnegie Leisure Centre, Dalgety Bay Sports and Leisure Centre, Duloch Leisure Centre and Pitreavie Athletics Centre, in the Dunfermline and West Fife area.

They had to make the "difficult decision" to close all of their sites across the Kingdom on March 18 to slow the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.

With centres closed, the trust has been running online classes for people who are wanting to stay active during lockdown.

Mr Urquhart added: “For those looking to stay active, we have a fantastic range of free, live-streamed virtual fitness sessions available each day and we are really pleased with the positive reaction we have from people in Fife, and internationally, to the great work our fitness instructors are doing.

"We’d advise customers to keep informed of our progress via our website and social media pages which we update regularly."
