A MAN is due to appear in court today (Thursday) after being charged in connection with an image circulatuing online referring to the death of George Floyd.
The 26-year-old, who has not been named, is scheduled to attend Dundee Sheriff Court after the picture was reported to Police Scotland on Tuesday.
South West Fife Police's Twitter feed said that he had been charged with communications offences, and that enquiries were ongoing.
Mr Floyd, 46, died after a police officer in the US city of Minneapolis, Derek Chauvin, kneeled on his neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds after he had been arrested on suspicion of using a counterfeit note.
The death of Mr Floyd has sparked widespread protests across the United States and around the world, including in the UK.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers in Fife have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with an image relating to the death of George Floyd in the United States which has been circulating on social media.
"This was reported to Police Scotland on Tuesday, 2 June. The man has now been charged and is due at Dundee Sheriff Court on Thursday, 4 June."
