JUST as a number of businesses open up again in Dunfermline town centre, one of the main routes through it will be shut for five weeks.
'Footway reconstruction works' will see Abbot Street, Maygate, St Catherine's Wynd and Kirkgate closed to traffic from today (Monday) to August 14.
Fife Council said the £118,000 project, which had started before lockdown, includes the installation of new Caithness slabs.
The alternative route for through traffic is via Canmore Street, New Row, East Port, Carnegie Drive and Glen Bridge.
Access for emergency service vehicles, pedestrians and residents will be maintained.
The work is part of a £1.15 million programme of improvements in the town centre that was approved in 2017.
The money was made up of £651,000 of Section 75 contributions from housing developers and £500,000 from the council’s capital investment fund.
The programme also included improvements to Leys Park Road car park, street lighting and drainage improvements on Carnegie Drive, and better footpaths and pedestrian access in Abbot Street, Maygate, Monastery Street, New Row, Walmer Drive, Carnegie Drive, Pilmuir Street and East Port.
