THE number of people who have died from coronavirus in Fife has now reached 200.

The total is a rise of three on the previous week's figures that are published by National Records of Scotland (NRS) and include those fatalities where COVID-19 is mentioned on the death certificate.

A total of 75 people have died in local care homes, which accounts for 37.5 per cent of all coronavirus deaths in Fife.

The majority came in hospital where 108 people – 54 per cent – have lost their lives.

A further 17 people have died either at home or in a ‘non-institutional setting’, representing 8.5 per cent of the overall total.

The latest data available shows statistics for Week 26: June 22 to 28.

The total of coronavirus-related deaths up to that date equates to 5.4 per 10,000 of the population.

Fife has the eighth-lowest number of deaths across the 14 NHS health boards across Scotland.

The death total is different from the count of deaths published daily by the Scottish Government because the latter is based on deaths of those who have tested positive for COVID-19.

The NRS figures published include all deaths where COVID-19 (including suspected or probable cases) was mentioned on the death certificate.
