AN investigation has been launched after a body was found on railway tracks close to the Forth Bridge this morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 7.20am and discovered the person had passed away.
A spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called at 7.22am to Forth Bridge following a report of a casualty near the tracks.
"Officers attended, but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Officers remain at the scene and enquiries are currently underway to establish the full circumstances behind the person’s death and how they came to be near the railway."
The incident has caused "major disruption" for ScotRail with services between Fife and Edinburgh affected as both lines are blocked at the bridge while police remain at the scene.
Replacement buses are running.
