Essential surfacing work on the M90 northbound carriageway between Halbeath and Kelty is set to take place from this Saturday (July 18) costing £615,000 for eight days.

The project will take place on the M90 northbound carriageway between the Halbeath and Cocklaw (Kelty) Junctions and will involve teams carrying out resurfacing improvements, creating a safer and smoother journey for motorists.

The essential project is set to begin at 7.30pm on Saturday and has been planned to take place over eight days using 24-hour working, with all improvements expected to be completed by 6.30am on Sunday, July 26.

To ensure the project can take place safely and with minimum disruption to motorists, a contraflow system of traffic management will be in place on the M90 between Halbeath and Cocklaw (Kelty) throughout the duration of the works.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “This £615,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the M90, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

“We’ve changed our ways of working to ensure all staff and the local community are kept safe at all times, and all personnel will be subject to strict physical distancing protocols in line with Scottish Government guidance. Thorough risk assessments have been developed and cleansing stations will be implemented on site to ensure all staff remain safe.

“The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists during the project. To help minimise delays as much as possible, we’ve planned the improvements to take place using 24-hour working, and our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safety as they can.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the M90. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
