ALDI have been given the go-ahead to build a "reverse vending machine" at their Halbeath Road store resulting in the loss of seven parking spaces.
The retailer is making plans for the Scottish Government's Deposit and Return Scheme which aims to recycle plastic bottles, aluminium and steel cans and glass bottles.
Consumers will be able to take single-use containers back and get a 20p deposit from any retailer selling drinks covered by the scheme.
The machine will be constructed over a disabled and parent and child space but these will be accommodated elsewhere.
Fife Council's Transportation Development Management Team (TDM) were consulted on the application and noted that the reduction from 121 to 114 car-parking spaces was acceptable as long as there was no further reduction.
