A GROUP of kind-hearted women have raised £300 to lift the spirits of an Abbeyview pensioner who was left terrified after a conman robbed her.

Laura McConnell was moved to help after she heard of the terrible ordeal that her friend's gran, Elaine Cameron, had gone through.

She runs the Facebook group ‘Killer Queens’ – a community forum of women predominantly based in Fife – which has raised money for various local causes.

Not only did they give her the cash but also made enough to buy her a security camera and a lovely bunch of flowers.

Laura told the Press: “I could not stop thinking about Elaine.

“It was keeping me up at night and I had to do something to help.

“It’s a lot of money for a pensioner to lose but not much if we all chip in a couple of quid that we aren’t going to miss.

“It’s horrible what’s happened to her and we just hope this brings her some happiness.”

Elaine believed she was speaking to a neighbour late on June 30 when a man knocked on her door saying he would fix a camera on her door.

It turned out he wasn't a neighbour and, when he tricker her into thinking there was someone at the back door, he got the chance to steal the money.

The 83-year-old, who lives in a block of flats, was also hounded the following evening when someone started banging on her bedroom window and shone a light through it in the late hours.

Police Scotland are currently investigating the theft but no arrests have yet been made.

Elaine’s daughter, Michelle Dixon, said: “My niece had told her friend Laura what had happened and next thing you know there was £300.

“Then the next day there was the camera and the next day a beautiful bunch of flowers!

“My mum wanted to give it back! She said she couldn’t possibly be taking money off people at this moment in time but I told her I didn’t know how to give it back!

“My mum is not struggling financially so I think she felt a bit bad but it’s the shock of it that has been the worst so she was over the moon that people were thinking of her.

"It’s incredibly kind of people and just goes to prove what this area is really like – full of good people that will do anything for you.”
