A "MOTHER and daughter dream team" will run a new one-stop hair and beauty salon in Dunfermline that will create 20 jobs.

Sharon Smith, who launched Flawless in Kelty in February last year, hopes planning permission and conversion work will allow her to open new premises at 4-8 Abbot Street before the end of 2020.

She said: "I'm going to split myself between the two salons but my daughter Holly, she's the make-up artist in the salon, turns 18 next month so she's going to help run it too.

"It'll be a mother and daughter dream team!

"It's going to be fantastic. I'm going to have someone doing botox and fillers too, sunbeds in the heart of Dunfermline, I've had girls from different salons wanting to join, it's all really positive."

Sharon continued: "We turned the salon in Kelty into a fantastic place with 21 of a team, we're mobbed seven days a week and I was doing 13-hour shifts.

"I was a Dunfermline hairdresser in different shops for more than 20 years and a lot of my clients come from Dunfermline, so the new salon will be better for them.

"It's going to bring the building back to life. It'll have new windows, it'll be power-washed, the roof will get fixed, it's going to be stunning. It's a win-win situation."

Sharon, who's from Kelty, fulfilled a dream when she opened her own salon in the village, after Asif Hussain helped her convert his Crown Inn pub.

The duo are teaming up again although 'beauty' was far from her mind when she stepped inside the Dunfermline building he bought.

She said: "When I went to see it, I fell in love with the outside of the building; inside there were mushrooms growing out of the walls!

"My man, David, is a joiner. He converted the pub in Kelty for me and whatever we want to do in Dunfermline, he can make happen.

"I said I'd like to open in October but he just laughed. It should be this year though."

And Sharon, 42, added: "I'm in talks about a third salon, in Kirkcaldy, and Asif has properties there too.

"It's my business but he's been brilliant throughout all of this, he's really backed me."

Sharon received a £10,000 grant and a bounce back loan to help her through the closure caused by the pandemic.

She said: "I'm a bubbly person and I love what I do, people walk in as clients and walk out as friends, so lockdown's been really hard.

"The first few days it was, 'What am I going to do with myself?' It was like my right hand had been cut off.

"Then I thought, 'This is great, let's drink every day!' It's back to reality now.

"It's brilliant to be open again and I'm fully booked until the end of August. I've had to get a receptionist just to sort through all the bookings."
